(Updated again with recommendations) I had a reader ask for suggestions on an iPod utility after a friend had lost his macbook's hard drive and wanted to restore/copy his music and photos from the iPod. Over the years I've posted links to many iPod utils (and even some terminal commands IIRC), but never used them personally (I keep a b/u of my iTunes lib on a FW drive just in case). I sent him links to a couple I could remember (iPodRip and Music rescue (used to be called PodUtil)) but welcome other suggestions/feedback from you. Updated with reader notes on iPodRip and suggesting PodWorks instead. Later replies raved about Senuti. (I'm not sure if he had enabled iPod disk use but also sent him a link to an Apple doc on How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer.)
