They will probably wait until the stocks of HD-DVD readers have been depleted, especially in the US. These units being sold off, even though they have no future with the HD-DVD format, are nonetheless very good DVD readers (as emphasized by Toshiba). A consolation for those who buy them without knowledge of the issue of the battle.
